Cheapest Quad-core Phones

Mobile phones are becoming cheaper and cheaper nowadays, thanks to our folks in China where massive counter production and product imitation has made smartphones relatively cheaper compared with branded ones. Local companies like Cherry Mobile, MyPhone, Starmobile and Torque import the bulk of their android phones from Chinese mobile production companies, which is formally refereed to as the ODM or original device manufacturer. Technological innovation has contributed substantially in making smartphones more affordable and far-reaching device that could take multi-tasking activities.  I remember the time in my grade school when my mother used to hire a photographer during my graduation. A unit of camera is too expensive, that’s why it's necessary to rely on their service during this “memorable period” .

Ok, I’ll now introduce to you the latest and cheapest quad-core mobile phones running on Google' android. However, this phones are all sold in the Philippines, so you might want to travel here if you’re from abroad.:)

Let’s kick off with Cherry Mobile Razor. Launched in second week of July, Razor packs all the necessary features to suit your lifestyle. It carries 1 GB RAM which is really good if you wanted to run more apps and 3D games, rendering you a lag-free experience. In addition, in runs on Jellybean 4.2 version, has 4 GB internal memory, 8 megapixels camera with LED flash and a viewing experience of 4.5 inches. But more than this worthy specs, it only measures 7.7 mm thick! Awesome right?

Cherry Mobile Razor costs Php 6499 or about $150 dollars. Pretty cheap. However, we have this kind of thinking that a product priced cheap packs cheap quality. I have been in a number of online forums where buyers of this company are exclaiming about how quickly the phone got broken. But it’s your choice by the way. PS. I am currently using Cherry Mobile Flare and so far I have not experience any deficiencies except for the power button where I have to press it hard for it to power up)

Moving on, we have Arc Mobile Nitro 450 QD. The company has just entered the mobile phone market this year, making them the youngest player. However, their little experience poses no barrier in competing directly with the other established brands. Arc Mobile Nitro 450 QD is their first and cheapest quad-core offering. The specs and pictures are posted below.

1.2GHz Quad-core Processor
PowerVR SGX544MP GPU
512MB RAM
4GB Internal Storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD Card
4.5-inches capacitive display, qHD Resolution
5.0-megapixel rear facing camera
VGA front-facing camera
WiFi, WiFi Hotspot, 3G, Bluetooth
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
1,800mAH Battery

Arc Mobile Nitro is priced at Php 5 800 or $ 134, cheap! The drawback here is the mere 512 MB RAM. You have to be very selective and mindful though about the apps you are installing in order to maintain the lag-free experience. Offering an affordable phone packing respectable specs for a new player in the smartphone market is a commending move. I have not personally experience this phone, so I can’t tell anything about its quality and user experience so if you own this phone, please tell us your experience!

Last on our list is the Cloudfone Excite 450Q which currently holds the “cheapest quad-core phone” in the Philippines. Pegged at Php 4999 or $116 dollars, Cloudfone Excite 450Q reigns supreme in our list. The specs are listed below

Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
4.5-inch HWVGA (480 x 854) Super AMOLED display
Dual sim
4 GB internal storage expandable via a MicroSD card slot
512 MB RAM
1.2 GHz quad core Qualcomm MSM8225Q processor
Adreno graphics processor
5 MP fixed focus primary camera
VGA front camera
HSPA
WiFi
Bluetooth
A-GPS
1800 mAh battery

The price may be compelling but there are some drawbacks which you have to consider. First is the mere 512 RAM, which I have stated above, is really insufficient if you want to install several apps and 3D intensive games. The camera does not have flash so you might want to take pictures more in the daylight. In addition, the 1800 mAh battery powering this 4.5 inch-quad-core is sure to last quickly. Well, I am not discouraging you to buy this phone, I am just reminding you about certain things that you have to be considerate of.

Now, I know you’ll ask, which one is the best to buy? Well, I do not own one of these phones (TOO BAD). Anyway, having a quad-core phone does not necessarily mean you’ll get the best smartphone experience. There are dual core and even single core processors that far better and snappier than these phones. Furthermore, you also have to consider the way you use a phone. You might just be interested in calling and texting so staying away from buying them saves you money. You just have to consider the things you value most and interests you before deciding to pick one. It’s you’re money after all.

Enduring Traffic In Cainta

The name "Janet Napoles" may serve you headaches these days. Thanks to her, our local traffic dilemma has attracted lesser attention. Let me tell you a story about my everyday commuter experience, which I interchangeably refer to as my "religious devotion" My class starts at 8:30 am every Tuesday and Thursday and 10:00 am for  Wednesdays and Fridays.  As you may have known, I am commuting from Taytay to UP Diliman everyday. I have to take 17 kilometers of ride to get there and another 17 to return, totalling 34 kilometers of travel everyday. (OMG!)  The average travel time ranges from 1 hour to 1 and a half during the regular semester. The picture below is the path I take going from Taytay to UP. It is also the same path I use when returning home. Taytay to UP-Diliman Trajecory Map Before you reach UP, you first have cross three cities and one town. Travelling from Taytay to Cainta is relatively fast, with minor incidence of traffic in Tikling,
